The first ever CPlan contractors’ training took place on 2nd April 2021 at JBK Hotel auditorium. It was attended by the first batch of interviewed candidates constituting drivers, child-minders, housekeepers and laundry assistants.
The panel of trainers comprised of professionals from security organs, the medical field, judiciary and early childhood development among others. The 8 – 11am session was attended by child minders and drivers only; who had professional drivers; traffic police and professional early childhood development gurus train them about the dos and don’ts of the job.
Mr. Ssembajjwe Louis, a professional driver with over eight years’ experience in professional driving, kicked off this session. He trained the drivers about how to navigate online driving – having driven for Uber for five years before venturing into urban transportation. The drivers were schooled on how to navigate the Kampala traffic and how to use traffic apps to beat the traffic jams. Mr. Ssembajjwe taught the drivers how to navigate Google Maps and the importance of GPS while driving. He stressed that these apps help one get to the client in record time hence increasing efficiency of the driver which raises their rating on the app.
Superintendent of Police Cosmas Ruganzu trained the drivers about the traffic rules and regulations from a security personnel’s perspective. He reminded them about the common causes of road accidents and how to best avoid them. He unraveled the labyrinth that is security in the cyber world. He taught them on how they should keep their person safe while on job as well as to and from a job. SP Ruganzu explained the importance of having a clean criminal record before anyone is published on the CPlan apps. He informed the contractors that they ought to acquire a certificate of good conduct from Interpol and emphasized that no one will be published on the CPlan app unless they present a valid certificate of good conduct as Interpol certification is not only meant to assure CPlan clients about the good conduct of our clients and that CPlan doesn’t contract felons but also give the contractors a fighting chance in case they were caught up in security breaches like burglaries while on job. He also tasked all those contractors without national IDs to apply for them from NIRA as soon as possible. SP Ruganzu has worked with Uganda Police for over 15 years. He has served as District Police Commander (DPC) for various districts and Regional Police Commander (RPC). He is currently working as Administrator, Inspectorate of Vehicles.
Mrs. Grace Muhwezi trained the contractors about child minding. Mrs. Muhwezi who has been a teacher for over 20 years is very knowledgeable about little children; having taught at AgaKhan Nursery School for more than 10 years. She currently owns and runs Reigns Kindergarten in Kitebi. She advised the contractors engaged in child minding to be compassionate, empathetic and be emotionally in touch with their charges. She further told them about the importance of personal hygiene and general body cleanliness when dealing with young children. Bad hygiene aids the spread of bacteria from the carrier to the children, which causes infections and other hygiene-related diseases.
Mr. Mwijukya Daniel from MAGNA Advocates trained the contractors about their legal rights, obligations and responsibilities while at work. He demystified the contracts and all the legal jargon that comes with them. He also explained the responsibilities of the client to the contractors as well as those of CPlan to the people they contract.
Miss Elizabeth Nakabugo from Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) trained the contractors about general health issues and common diseases. She highlighted the common causes of diseases, how they are spread and how they can be avoided or managed if they occur. She explained and listed the most infectious diseases, contagious ones and the non-communicable ones. She gave the contractors preventive measures to follow to avoid hygiene-related diseases, stomach infectious and air-borne diseases. Ms Nakabugo emphasized the importance of vaccinating against diseases like Hepatitis B, the importance of routine general body check-ups, the value of nutrition in the fight against diseases, immunity boosting and how to navigate COVID-19.
The app development team led by Mr. Kimbugwe Muzaphal, took the contractors through the workings of the app. They demonstrated how the app works, where it can be downloaded and how one is registered. He highlighted the technical areas like accepting and completing jobs, withdrawing the money earned and making reports about one’s personal account.
The CPlan founders and directors also addressed the trainees about the general management and running of the company. Ms. Mbajja Mariam, the Managing Director answered contractors’ queries about the company as a whole. She explained about the company’s responsibility to the contractors and clients, the administrative aspects of CPlan and the payment plan among other issues. Notable among the issues raised were sexual harassment and contractors’ safety while on job and CPlan’s strategy to mitigate and manage them.
Mrs. Sarah Mbajja Musinguzi, the Principal Visionary at CPlan trained the contractors about customer service, grooming, etiquette and CPlan’s corporate image to the contractors. She also debuted the CPlan contractors’ uniforms.
